Bean Pod

We recently sold our home in Seattle, packed all our stuff into a HUGE storage unit, lived in our motorhome for a month, went house hunting and found this:
A BIG BLUE CAPE COD built in 1938 by a lumber mill owner. Solid as a rock, beautifully crafted, in the little town of Dayton, WA.
And we love it.
And we are fixing it up and loving that too.

Dayton sits about 30 miles east of Walla Walla, WA. We are surrounded by rolling wheat fields and vineyards – There are rivers for fishing, trails for walking, Bluewood Ski Resort for snow fun and there is us, me and Jerry and our Blue Cap Cod. And two cats – Hattie and Tailie.

I am a photographer, writer, painter, gardener, happy cook, mom, and grandmother. I am Vicki. Jerry is the guy, my guy, a good man, partner, funny, not super sociable but he thrives in a small pod of people. He is smart and puts up with my quirkiness and often encourages it. He is a fly-fisherman so that means he is patient and can spot a sweet swirl on a river where a big fish is waiting for one of his phony flies to land. He likes to catch and release but when he does keep them, we eat them and I have created a couple of tasty brine just for river trout.

If you wonder why I would post a photo of an old, dried up bead pod, well, inside that old, dried up bean pod are some beans, and they are the future. summerdone2
The outside looks all crumbly and useless but it holds the potential beauty of new growth, green shoots, and many tomorrows. Kind of like me . . .

Life is messy but with some good food and wine and some laughs, the mess is less noticeable.
